The CSIS Smart Global Health Essay Contest offers students (and others) a chance to compete for prizes of $500 and $1,000 dollars by writing an essay of 500 to 800 words on the following topic: “What is the most important thing the US can do to improve global health over the next 15 years?”

One of the really interesting things about this contest is that while students (undergraduate or graduate level) can compete against each other students for two prizes, younger students, and indeed, ANYONE, can compete for two additional prizes. Please be careful to select the correct category from the drop down menu when submitting your entry.

The deadline to enter is November 20, 2009. You can find a link to the contest rules and enter your own submission on the CSIS Smart Global Health Essay Contest web page.

The Apogee Search Scholarship Program is a chance for college studennts age 18 or older to compete for a prize of $500.

To compete, students will create a marketing campaign for a generic (they don’t need the hassle of dealing with license or copyright issues) product. The interesting part of this is that the campaign will be executed via a combination of social networking sites (Think Myspace, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Blogger, etc.)

Entrants are encouraged to take advantage of viral marketing techniques. In my mind, anyone who has a lot of Facebook friends and is willing to put forth a minimal effort to make a funny Youtube video has got a real shot at this. Better yet, it should be fun to do!

The deadline to enter is December 1, 2009. You can find complete information and the link to submit your campaign on the Apogee Search Scholarship Program web site.
